Body and Mind
Our physical state directly affects both our mental and emotional well-being. Thought affects muscle activity; muscle activity affects thought. If our muscles are habitually over tightened our bodies and our minds become distorted, unbalanced and compressed causing all kinds of ills such as arthritis, tendonitis, Fibromyalgia, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ, sciatica, insomnia, depression and anxiety. The release of unnecessary muscular tension is vital to our well-being.
"The Alexander Technique helped a long standing back problem and to get a good night's sleep after many years of tossing and turning."
- Paul Newman
Most of us after the age of three or four learn muscular tension patterns that interfere with our natural ease, balance, support and freedom of movement. Over many years of accumulated stress, that tension can deteriorate our posture into what can border on deformity. Most tension builds up gradually and we are unlikely to be aware that it is even there at all. With the Alexander Technique, you are taught how to rid yourself of harmful unconscious tension in the body and mind and relearn good use of self that is our birth right.
“If you want to change your life, change your mind.”
- William James
