Here F M Alexander expresses a fundamental aspect of the Alexander Technique. You don’t want to use your neck while walking, for example, because it’s clearly not doing the walking.  And yet, people often tense the neck with just the thought of walking as though that was going to help.

In his own life as a reciter and actor, he found that he was tightening his neck when he just thought about speaking and that was interfering with the quality of his voice.  That was a huge discovery for him – and is often a huge discovery for students with voice issues today.

Robert teaches the Alexander Technique in Omaha, Nebraska and online.  For more information about his teaching, go to Movement Coaching.com
